Mesa Verde National Park, outside Durango Colorado
First, it is a National Park, so it must be special. When your child studies Native Americans Mesa Verde is the only place where they can walk around where Native Americans once lived. They can imagine what life must have been like since the cliff dwellings are much like the Indians left them in 1285. There are 600 cliff dwellings to see, some like Cliff Palace are as big as a neighborhood, others so small they might only accommodate a few families. Children love climbing ladders to exit the dwellings, the parents, not so much. Highly recommend taking the tour that traces the 700 year evolution of life here, as well as the walking through the museum.
