Uganda, Africa: Victory School

The KamuKama Foundation was established in 2012 to support the mission of Victory School to positively impact the lives of children in Uganda by providing them a foundation for a brighter future. Victory School is located in Buhoma, Bwindi, a remote village in Western Uganda. It borders the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home of the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

Victory School is a place of hope. It is a place where children are loved and encouraged to learn. It is a place where dreams come alive.

Victor and Sylvia Bahati started Victory School in 2006. Having known poverty first hand, they sought out a way to positively impact the children in their community and usher a possibility of a brighter future. Their mission was to provide an education to the most needy and vulnerable children. Funded from money saved by working at a local lodge, the school enrolled 33 children and has since grown to 300 children.

The school provides an education to the children growing up in extreme poverty who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend school. In addition to academics, Victory School equips the children with the tools to manage family planning, nutrition, health, sex education and farming skills.

Victory School needs your contribution to help these children. They are struggling to support the students and pay their teachers. Additional resources would provide them the financial stability to continue and raise the overall quality of education.

Why Uganda?

Uganda´s AIDS epidemic, extreme poverty and decades of civil conflict have left the country with over 2.4 million orphans – the most of any country in the world. Due to lack of government subsidized education, families face enormous challenges to educate their children.

  • over half of the people in Uganda struggle to survive on less than $1.25 a day
  • 3 out of 4 children who start primary school in Uganda do not complete 5th grade
  • 1 in 3 Ugandan children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition
  • 2 in 5 children and adults in rural Uganda lack access to clean water
  • almost 100,000 children die annually from malaria in Uganda
  • an estimated 1.2 million children and adults in Uganda are living with HIV / AIDS, 64,000 of whom die annually
  • the average life expectancy is 54 years
